Kimel receives the Dr. David Green Materials Faculty Service Award
The Dr. David Green Materials Faculty Service Award was established to enrich the Department of Materials Science and Engineering by recognizing a faculty member who has performed outstanding service work and provide support to faculty to further their contributions in teaching, research, and public service in MatSE.
This year's recipient, R. Allen Kimel, Ph.D., associate teaching professor, will be using the award to go to the John C. Campbell Folk School in North Carolina to bring the art/skill of blacksmithing/metal working back to our department. His plans are to establish metal working and ceramics making capabilities along the lines of the current glass studio. These actions are a part of a bigger program we are calling Sustainable STEAM.
