Dawne M. Moffatt-Fairbanks, Ph.D., is director of thermal and materials engineering in the Manufacturing Technology and Engineering division at Corning Incorporated. In this role, she is responsible for the core engineering capabilities in glass, ceramics, metallurgical applications, thermal processes, and thermal equipment design. Corning is one of the world's leading innovators in materials science, with a 167-year track record of life-changing inventions. Corning applies its unparalleled expertise in glass science, ceramics science, and optical physics, along with its deep manufacturing and engineering capabilities, to develop category-defining products that transform industries and enhance people's lives.
Moffatt-Fairbanks has been with Corning for 31 years. In her previous role, she was research director, Process Research, where she was responsible for setting the strategy and vision for process research in glass, ceramics, and fiber, and for working closely with the materials research organizations to develop processes to enable new products. She has also held various scientific and leadership roles in R&D, focused on glass composition research, glass melting and forming development, and operations.
Moffatt-Fairbanks has a B.S. in Ceramic Science and Engineering and a Ph.D. in Ceramic Science from Penn State. She delivered the Richard E. Tressler Lecture in 2017, is a member of the American Ceramic Society, a leader in Corning’s Global Energy Management program, and is a graduate of the Tuck Global Leadership Program at Dartmouth. Moffatt-Fairbanks holds five U.S. patents and is actively involved in coaching and mentoring employees in RD&E.
